INSPIRATION WHEN WE NEED IT THE MOST....

As we inch towards the new norm, Story is emerging like a butterfly from enforced hibernation and breathing new life into its inspirations and collections. This month I'm feeling for patchwork, quilting, bricolage and reworked textiles. Perhaps as a metaphor for our time inside when many of us have turned our hands to exploring new ideas.   I'm sharing another kind of Story this time. Not one of our own but one celebrating the creativity of others which seems relevant and right for these times. ....EnJOY.... Love, Power and Gratitude Julinka x

OUR STORY... www.storydesigns.co.uk We're always trying to reinvent the wheel at Story with our takes on embroidery. Here mixing denim, antique kantha embroidered Indian silk, hand embroidery and broderie anglaise, all on my mother-in-law's handmade quilt!

BE INSPIRED BY... www.thompsonstreetstudio.com Beautiful handmade explorations for the home using natural dyed cottons.

LUST AFTER... www.marfastance.com A wonderful new label. On my lust list ... this reversible colour block quilted jacket. Made in Italy and built to last you a lifetime.

MAKE....www.yodomo.co I stumbled across this site whilst looking at the work of Karolina Merska. Karolina makes 'pajaki', traditional Polish folk chandeliers made from straw and tissue paper. I can't get enough. You can learn how to make one of these and countless other inspiring craft projects here. Perfect for the lockdown!

DISCOVER...www.haroldoffeh.com 'Pattern for Progress' 2019 My brilliant friend Harold is a Ghanaian artist who works with video, performance and in the community. This is a ceramic tiled wall made by patients with MS as a metaphor for their experiences of the condition. I love its poetic boldness and colour.

READ...www.vogue.com/article/bisa-butler-artist-interview Bisa Butler's work blows my mind. 'Asantewa' 2020 Cotton, silk, wool, velvet quilted and appliquéd. Butler's portraits are 100% fabric using textiles honouring the African American traditions of quilting and patchwork to create a unique poetic and political statement. *None of these mentions are sponsored or paid for - just highlighting small businesses and people I love.*

UNTIL THE NEXT EDITION... STAY SAFE... STAY INSPIRED...
